HEIGHT STATISTICS
All measurements are taken from the Hook bone which for practical reasons you measure above that point on the animals back and take 1 inch off to obtain your data. Little Highlands are under 42 inch’s at three years old (mature) and Mid size Highlands are 42 to 48 inch’s at three years.
Bull’s are a little higher than this but only by a few inch’s. Within these measurements you are able to deduce the "LITTLE (L) grading" by Minus 6 to Minus 1, and Plus 1 to Plus 3 for Mid size. See attached guide, which gives an idea at certain ages / heights, what category your animal falls into. It cannot be a total fool proof system as like people, animals grow at different rates. The first year you see the most gains. This in turn slows up in year two, and in year three it is about one inch for the whole year.
